Employee Health Assessment

Employee Health Assessment

Mobile hearing testing services allow employers to test employees efficiently, while reducing the hassle & expense associated with hearing testing of employees exposed to noise in the workplace.    And we're quite expert at designing schedules and processes that help clients increase the effectiveness of their hearing testing program.  After all, we're one of Ontario's most experienced audiometric testing companies, having provided industrial hearing tests and related services since 1977.

Mobile Audiometric Testing Units are use to provide hearing tests directly at job sites and work locations throughout Ontario.  In addition, Occu-Med provides the full ranges of services required for Hearing Conservation Programs typically required as part of an industrial hearing test program.

Our Hearing Conservation programs include:

  • Noise surveys
  • Audiometric Testing
  • Employee education on hearing loss and hearing tests
  • Presentation of audiometric testing results to employee groups or Health & Safety Committees
  • Pre-test presentations to employees on the purpose & design of the hearing testing program
  • Customized reporting package of summary audiometric results
  • Individualized hearing test report letters for each employee

Our mobile hearing testing team focuses on simplifying audiometric testing programs for our clients.   We provide assistance with scheduling, with presentations to employees, and post-testing presentations to ensure employee questions or concerns are addressed.  We even provide onsite Testing Co-ordinators who assist the employer to manage the flow of employees.  These co-ordinators work with supervisors to help ensure an efficient flow of employees through the audiometric testing truck, and therefore make the program as cost-effective as possible.

In short, we work hard to make the management of audiometric testing programs as easy as possible for our clients.

Audiometric Testing helps reduce your workplace occupational health costsAudiometric testing helps:

  • to identify whether employees have suffered hearing loss and
  • to determine if noise in the workplace might be contributing to hearing loss.

While some companies test only once (to establish a baseline, usually at time of hire), the real value of audiometric testing comes from testing on some periodic basis -- so that results can be compared period over period and trends can be identified.

It is quite possible that a specific employee's loss may not be caused by noise in the workplace. However, comparing the summary results for different divisions, departments or locations can help companies identify patterns, or more importantly -- significant differences between departments, divisions, etc. These comparisons can help an employer can assess whether the hearing conservation program overall is working, and where improvements need to be made.

Each Occu-Med mobile audiometric testing unit is capable of testing 4 employees simultaneously. Our units are equipped with state-of-the-art audiometers and data gathering equipment which ensure reliability, repeatability and reproducibility of results.

In addition, Occu-Med has enough audiometric testing staff to be able to work around the clock for days or weeks at a time. This is particularly significant for larger clients that wish to do their audiometric testing as quickly & efficiently as possible. Typically, this is best done by doing the testing in as few contiguous time-blocks as possible.

Occu-Med provides additional value-added services to help clients prepare for and administer the testing program, and maintain the flow of employees during the program.

Occu-Med provides Designated Substance Medicals to help you comply with legislated requirements.

Employers who use certain substances designated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations are required, by law, to conduct pre-placement and periodic medical exams, to determineDesignated Substance medicals help control & manage your occupational health costs

  1. if employees are medically fit to start working (and be exposed) to those substances, and
  2. if employees are medically fit to continue working with designated substances.
In short, employers who expose employees to hazardous substances have a legal obligation to
  • monitor wether such exposure is harming employees' health
  • take every precaution necessary to protect employees and reduce the potential harm.

We come to you:

We know that employers with designated substances can't just send a few hundred (or even a few) employees down to the local clinic for their medicals.  What should be a 40-minute medical becomes a 3-HOUR trip once you factor in travel time, a stop for coffee, and the waiting time at the doctor's office! And in many assembly-line situations, your costs double since you must also pay the absent employees' replacement on the line.

Occu-Med's on-site services save employers money, by reducing the time it takes to conduct these medicals. Our nurses come to you, bring portable equipment, and conduct the designated subtance medicals right at your workplace. A 30-minute medical therefore takes about 30-minutes. No travel, no detours, and no waiting at the doctors office.

Occu-Med is uniquely able to provide all our mobile health and on-site testing services at client locations.  The ability to deliver service directly at your location means that we:
  • minimize the cost of downtime and employee travel
  • increase the efficiency of the medical services personnel
  • enable you to cover a higher number of employees in a shorter time-span and

Mobile Units

Occu-Med was one of the first to introduce mobile units to provide on-site health testing to clients throughout Southwestern Ontario, having operated Mobile Hearing testing trucks since the early 1980's.  These units contain hearing booths and examining rooms which can be used to conduct medical and ergonomic assessments, audiometric testing, vision and pulmonary function tests.

Our Mobile Health Testing Unit is essentially an x-ray clinic on wheels, and  was designed for general purpose health and medical surveillance testing .  This unit includes an X-ray unit, a full sound booth, two medical examining beds and space for vision and pulmonary function testing equipment.

Our mobile units are specifically required for certain types of testing because of the equipment they carry.  Alternatively, the mobile health testing units can be scheduled  when clients do not have appropriate facilities.  Need to do preplacement medicals for a factory you're still building?  Have a number of employees that you need tested, but no room in your production facility?  No problem -- we can park outside the building.

Mobile Hearing Testing units are used for audiometric testing - and can conduct over 100 hearing tests per 8-hour shift.

We have many choices for how best to handle the logistics and management of the health service delivery, so as to simplify the process and reduce your total testing costs.  Call us, and we'll work it out for you.
